We all see it on social media, in our groups of friends, and in our family. That one couple that is so awesome and amazing and seem to have it all together, and while we hate them for it, we also strive for it.
So, what are your #relationshipgoals? Have you taken the time this new year to think about what you want, be it your existing relationship or one you hope to have? Here are a few things to consider as you make your goals.
Your time. How do you want to spend your time this year in regard to making new connections or fostering existing ones? You might think you get plenty of social interaction, but are you getting one on one time with another person you’re interested in? Planning and executing an actual date is important for a relationship. It not only makes the other person feel like you’ve planned out a special time for them, but it also allows you to focus on one another exclusively.
- Your budget. How much can you spend if you’re going on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly date? You don’t want to go broke just because you think every date needs to be lavish. Keep in mind that your date can be special even if it’s a walk in the park followed by ice cream, but it’s always nice to attend an event out of the norm, like a nice dinner followed by a play or other show. Set your boundaries and look for unique ways to spend time together.
- Your interests. Obviously, you’re not going to want to take a date to a baseball game if you hate baseball. Find something that interests you and is likely to interest another person. After the first few dates, you can really hone in on what your partner likes and dislikes, and you can find something you both enjoy.
- Your date. This one is tricky, because there’s no official timeline for dating. According to a study done by Lisa Daily, most couples don’t decide to be exclusive until after six to eight dates. Don’t give up after the first date if you’re not quite sure! Be patient with yourself and others, and have fun with the experience.
If you keep these things in mind as you make relationship goals, you’ll be able to decide what you want and what is best for you. Enjoy the ride, and do new things. This is your year, so make it happen!
